What You Need to Grow Baby Portabella Mushrooms To grow Portobello mushrooms at home, you’ll need a few key materials: Mushroom Spawn – The Babybella Mushroom Spawn is required to grow this type of mushroom. You can buy premade seeds online or at a garden store. Growing Medium – The best substrate for growing babybella mushrooms is a mixture of pasteurized compost and sterilized hardwood sawdust. Container – You will need a container to store your growing medium. Plastic or metal trays, or plastic bags are suitable containers for growing babybella mushrooms. Moisture source – A spray bottle is fine for this, or install a humidifier near your growing area to provide them with the necessary moisture. Temperature control – Babybella mushrooms grow best at temperatures between 65 and 75 °F (18 and 24 °C). Dark, Cool Environment – Babybella mushrooms require a dark, cool environment to mature. You can store them in a cardboard box or paper bag in a cool place or in the refrigerator. How to Grow Baby Portabella Mushrooms Step 1 – Prepare the substrate Mix pasteurized compost or a mixture of pasteurized compost and sterilized hardwood sawdust in a container. When they reach the desired size, harvest them by twisting and pulling them from the substrate. Avoid using a knife to cut the mushrooms, as it can damage the substrate and increase the risk of contamination. Step 7 – Store the mushrooms Place the harvested mushrooms in a cardboard box or paper bag.
